Traditionally, these dental restorations have been made of a silver-appearing material or gold, making them noticeable in the mouth, especially when smiling. Now, however, crowns are more often made with porcelain, which almost perfectly mimics the surface of the tooth and makes for a highly natural-looking, aesthetic finish.
As a minimally invasive dentist, I only recommend crowns in cases where the tooth or teeth are broken down, or in teeth that have already had crowns. Where this isn’t the case, I would use a less invasive approach and recommend veneers or partial coverage crowns.
Back to TreatmentsWith proper care, your crown can last for many years while maintaining both function and appearance. Good oral hygiene—brushing twice daily, flossing, and regular dental check-ups—will help protect the tooth beneath and around the crown.
Avoiding habits such as teeth grinding or chewing on hard objects will also extend its lifespan, keeping your smile healthy and beautiful for the long term.
